Sustainability is often mistaken for environmental friendliness. True sustainability is achieved when a business is able to generate a long-lived profit stream while being fully congruent with its external operating environment i.e. accounting for all the costs of doing business. So while this may include a degree of environmental compatibility, it also includes a high standard of corporate governance, social responsibility and environmental maintenance. In turn, a business with a focus on sustainability may continue to have a fertile business environment to grow and earn profits in. Our focus includes selecting sectors which are experiencing strong shifts towards new sustainable business models to deliver the needed business outcomes. Beyond sector selection, we also like to dig deeper to determine more meaningful measures of business sustainability, helping both the clients we advise and investors they wish to attract.
